“Dust” has been birthed into the world and it will eat you alive. The headbanging number is a relentless rocker showcasing the band’s energy and anthem-like qualities.

It’s all rooted in nostalgia. The music of OKC based rock band Animal Mother is part homage to the founding Grunge bands of the early 90’s and part exploratory alternative rock that pushes back against any formulaic approach to songwriting and melody as heard today. Music was never meant to be perfect and finding the rough edges of songs, and leaving them that way, are the reason we love them in the first place. Morphing these rough and open sounds into flowing melodies, tight guitar tones, powerful rhythms, and massive choruses make an AM show an absolute primal inducement of joy and power.

Founded by lifelong studio mates and buddies Aaron Rogers (guitar) and Dylan Swindell (vocals) in the Summer of 2023, Animal Mother was a project long in the making. Through countless other on-and-off bands and dozens of songs in their studio, Bison Tail Studios, Dylan and Aaron were finally able to assemble and recruit the perfect bandmates. Mike Stacy (drums) and Eric Barnes (bass) form the concrete rhythm section of the band with Jered Orth (lead guitar) bringing his slicing solos to complete the five-piece.

Animal Mother calls OKC home but each member hails from different parts of the Sooner state. Each individual brings to AM a cornucopia of influences, ideas, and inspirations. The discography lends itself to this as listeners can spot ideas and sounds ranging from Pearl Jam to Incubus, Clutch to Metric, Biffy Clyro to U2.

“Yeah, we’ve got a blend of inspirations and influences,” Swindell says. “Writing with these dudes is amazing because we could come up with the goofiest song I’ve ever heard one practice, and an absolute monster jam the next. Makes for great stories and better music.”
